2007 The Sculptor Chardonnay
Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley

100% Estate Chardonnay – Old Clone with Meursault origins. The grapes are grown at Mitch Cosentino’s personal residence and another vineyard nearby. The Sculptor has always been a personal signature wine of Mitch Cosentino.

100% barrel fermented in 100% new French Oak. Two barrel types were used – one from Meursault made from 3 year air dried Allier and the other designed and made specially for Cosentino Signature Wineries by a Burgundy cooper who produces no more than 36 of this barrel annually.

The wine was aged on the lees for 14 months. No malolactic fermentation, this wine retains its natural acidity.

Limestone minerality with citrus and vanilla notes in the nose. Bright, fresh, crisp with pippen apple and honeysuckle notes wrapped in a youthful, medium, full-bodied Meursault-like structure. Superior aging potential over the next 5 to 10 years and beyond due to the wine’s balance and twenty-some year history.

Originally made in 1982, this wine has excellent (and uncommon) aging potential as can be attested by anyone who possesses a “SCULPTOR” from the 1980’s.
